Europe Trip 2022- May 10-11 Travel Day

This trip had been rescheduled three times since we booked in 2020, due to Co-vid!! Traveling with Bill and Deb Eastwood, and meeting Kathy and Andy Schwab and Marilyn and Larry Vermeersch later on.

Bill and Deb met us at our house at 4:50 a.m. to drive to CWA in Mosinee for a Delta flight which left at 7:10 to Minneapolis.  We had breakfast there, and left at 12:45 to Detroit- arrived at 3:30 EST.  Had a light lunch there and left at 5:50 p.m. for Munich (11:50 Munich time).  There were only 70 people on board a plane that holds 230, due to it being a new flight after Co-Vid 19.  We had free wine and a decent dinner. Watched a movie, then moved to an empty row to stretch out and sleep.  Before landing in Munich at 8:25 am local time, we got an egg sandwich.

We took the train from the airport to Hauptbahnhof (main train station), then walked about two blocks to Hotel MetropolA cute little boutique hotel on a side street, great location for getting around the city.  We left our luggage and walked to the Augustiner-Keller Biergarten (west of station) and had a snack and beers.  Deb had a giant pretzel with cheese (not hot), we had sausages.  We walked and took tram back to hotel where Marilyn and Larry were waiting.  Checked into our room, which was very nice.  Had a shower and unpacked, then had a drink at the small hotel bar which conveniently had 6 stools!

We then took the tram to Hofbrauhaus biergarten for an early dinner. This is the largest and most famous of the biergartens in Munich.  I had pork schnitzel with potato salad and Kirk had sausages and kraut.  The oompah band started up at 6, it started getting very crowded. We took the tram back to the hotel and were in bed by 8:00. Long day- 14,500 steps! Woke up at 1:00 a.m., could not sleep.
