On Wednesday we walked through the park (with Roman ruins) near our suites to meet our Colosseum/Forum Skip the Line tour group. We had croissants and coffee before our 8:30 check-in.

Digging outside Colosseum |
There was lots of walking and stairs, but our guide Eddy was very good- he was an Archeology PhD who had worked on the site and knew a lot of history.
It was hot but there was a breeze when we toured the Palatine Hill (Nero's palace and ruins). The tour lasted 3 hours.

After our tour we found a little shop where we had huge meat/cheese/tomato sandwiches and drinks that were very good.
We walked to the Victor Emmanuel monument which was closed so we couldn't walk up the many stairs to get a good view of Rome. We walked back to the room (so hot and tired!) to take a shower and nap. We then walked to Al Tre Scalini for dinner- lasagna, salads, bread. We got a free shot of limoncello after dinner. Cute little place- not fancy but good food. We had one drink at the Druids Den Irish Pub nearby and went back to suites to play cards until 10:00. Very sore legs again, over 20K steps!
